Happy Valentines Day!

We wanted to wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day! We've had a bit of a communication issue lately... internet is down island-wide. Pretty much the only spot to get internet at the moment is at Ross. It's a bit frustrating, it's been down since Thursday night, and before that it was really spotty. Since the internet is our main communication tool, it's been annoying. We haven't been able to call anyone back home or send out emails or anything! I guess you don't realize how much you depend on the internet until it's gone.

Things are good here though, despite the lack of internet. Ryan had a histology practical on Friday, and he has an anatomy practical on Tuesday. He's studying and working hard, but we do take time to enjoy living here. On Friday we went to a surprise party that a friend threw for her husband, who's a first semester student at Ross. It was nice to visit with other people and to meet some new people, so we enjoyed it. We also met an adorable puppy named Mulligan. He's one of the island dogs that a friend took in because she was worried he wasn't going to find a good home. The former owner wanted to walk into a classroom and hold the puppy up and ask who wanted it. Some impulsive student would have taken the puppy... and then not wanted it anymore when they realized that having a puppy is like having an infant.

I joined PAWS, the organization that works to help the stray dogs and cats on the island. There are some of the most amazing, caring, and loving people in the world in this group. I really think we'll be able to make a difference. There are so many dogs that need help here. Some of them HAD homes... they were adopted by students who left them behind when they realized it would be expensive to ship them back to the states. And they're all lovely dogs as well. Anybody want one? Come on! Come for a Caribbean vacation and bring home a four-legged souvenir.

This morning Ryan and I went into Roseau. It was the first time that he'd been there, and we managed to get some shopping done, and then have a small lunch at Rituals, which is an amazing coffee shop. One just opened in Picard, right next to the campus, but I am trying to pretend that it isn't there, or else I would be very broke and very overweight.

Hope everyone back home is doing well! We miss you all very much, and send you all our love. And for a weather update... it's about 80 today and very sunny. Hope you are all enjoying that nice cold weather!!
